Carbon footprint analysis is also known as greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessment. It evaluates the GHG emissions caused by manufacturing products or any given activity that contributes to global warming.
Greenhouse gases are a natural atmospheric creation aimed at keeping the earth warmed up to the expected level to ensure the habitability of the earth through its natural greenhouse effect. These GHGs include Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), Perfluorocarbons (PFCs), Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6), and Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3).
Greenhouse gas effect & Climate change
The greenhouse gas (GHG) effect in concise scientific terms is a process that takes place when the heat of the sun passes through the earth’s atmosphere and warms the planet’s surface but is prevented from escaping directly to space by the atmosphere, creating higher global warming. In the process, greenhouse gases tend to trap the heat radiated from the sun in the atmosphere causing global warming.
The long-term acceleration in global temperature and frequent weather fluctuations due to the effect of accumulated atmospheric greenhouse gases leads to a non-reversible climate change detrimental to earth’s survival including mankind’s. Hence, it’s mankind’s responsibility to tackle climate change and the primary step of executing the tackle is reducing the carbon footprint
